First Preview of Android N : What’s New, Availability & More

In a huge surprising way today Google’s SVP for Android, Hiroshi Lockheimer posted on Medium an article titled “N, as in: so early, it’s Not Named yet ;)” that the team decided it wanted to release the preview earlier in order to get more feedback from developers earlier in the process and get the final N release into the hands of device manufacturers this summer. Google’s current plan calls for five preview releases and a final release in Q3 2016. The expectation was that Google wouldn’t start talking about Android N until its I/O developer conference in May. Instead, it decided on a very different approach.

The earliest preview yet.

What’s New?

Below is a demo video posted by The Verge showing what’s new in the upcoming version of Android.

Availability

The developer preview of Android N is available for Nexus 6, Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, General Mobile 4G (Android One), Nexus Player, Nexus 9, and Pixel C devices via an OTA by visiting g.co/androidbeta.

Hiroshi Lockheimer also mentioned the below line in his post which makes pretty clear what the next android version would be named.

So, the burning question that’s on everyone’s mind: what will the N release be named? We’re nut tellin’ you yet.
